The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued their<strong> FACTA DISPOSAL RULE<\/strong> which:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It applies to virtually every person and business in the United States.<\/li>\n<li>It requires the destruction of all consumer information before it is discarded.<\/li>\n<li>Potentially Severe Penalties Await Violators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the FTC\u2019s, <strong>FACTA DISPOSAL RULE<\/strong>, \u201cany person who maintains or otherwise possesses consumer information for a business purpose\u201d must properly destroy discarded consumer information and \u201cmust properly dispose of such information by taking reasonable measures to protect against unauthorized access to or use of the information in connection with its disposal.\u201d\u00a0 The federal government is authorized to bring enforcement actions in federal court for violations of the disposal rule for up to $2,500 in penalties for each independent violation of the rule.\u00a0 Contracting Data Shredding Services of Texas, Inc. to shred all of your consumer information is the best way to comply with FACTA.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>WHAT IS HIPAA?:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient\u2019s consent or knowledge. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued the HIPAA Privacy Rule to implement the requirements of HIPAA.
